ABOUT US

FOUNDED IN 1970

Ards SC is a competitive swimming club based in Newtownards Leisure Centre, Northern Ireland. The club caters for beginner level swimmers from age six, to competitive swimmers at senior level, and even masters swimmers. Ards SC is currently the only swimming club in Ireland to have swimmers on both the 2008 Olympic Games Squad, and the 2012 Olympic Squad. We also have several swimmers on the 2010 Commonwealth Games Squad, and the Ulster Swim Squad.

OUR STORY

Being the most successful large sporting club in Newtownards in recent years, it sits in the heart of the community, drawing on volunteers to assist with the day-today running of the club with duties ranging from from basic administration right through to coaching.

Founded in the 1970s, Ards ASC is one of Ireland’s premier competitive swimming clubs.

March 2013 saw the dawn of an exciting new era for the club as we secured pool time in the Bangor Aurora Aquatic Centre, Northern Ireland’s first competition size 50m pool.  This allowed us valuable access to Long Course training on our doorstep.

Swimmers from Ards ASC have competed at all levels from Development level to the Olympic games. Within our current squads we have Paralympic Games, Commonwealth Games and International swimmers, along with National and Ulster Age/Youth winners and finalists.

At Ards ASC, we strive to provide a safe, positive and competitive environment for our swimmers, where they can realise their own individual potential.

Ards ASC currently has approximately 219 members and has, since 1994, been under the guidance of our Head Coach, Davy Johnston. A team of Level 1,2&3 coaches, and a group of volunteer Team Managers and Squad Representatives supports the Head Coach.

Ards Swimming Club is based at Blair Mayne Wellbeing Centre,  Newtownards, Co. Down.
