Regional squad selection criteria!
1. Regional Skills Academy, Regional Development Squad Stage 1 and Stage 2
a. Athletes will be asked to submit an expression of interest between 23rd and 30th November 2020 on a first come first served basis. Links to the expression of interest form will be circulated to clubs and via the Swim Ireland social media platforms in advance of this date.
b. Following the closing date, Regions will check and confirm that athletes are eligible for selection. The Regions will then contact successful athletes with payment details. If payments are not received by the deadline notified within the email, invites will go to athletes on the waiting list.
2. Regional Pathway Squad – Athletes under consideration for selection will be asked to submit a Statement of Intent outlining their current and future swimming/academic goals and plans, their ability to contribute to a Regional team environment, and their current level of support verses the required level of support. Coaches will be asked to submit a Recommendation Form to cover the same areas. Selections will be confirmed in writing on 1st December 2020. ... See more

Without any current competitive results from which to select athletes, and with access to training restricted for so many clubs, our intention is to deliver the Regional Squad Programme virtually between January and June in 2021.

We might be out of the water for the next few weeks, but we can still stay fit and clock up the distance within our 5km radius.

From October 26th - 29th November compete against other clubs to top our weekly leader board.

How does it work?

Proud club !

Nelson Lindsay, the coach who has helped guide Bethany Firth to a quartet of Paralympic gold medals, has had his achievements recognised by being named on the Queen's Birthday Honours List.

Huge congratulations to Ards coach Nelson Lindsay being awarded the Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE)on the Queens birthday honours list for services to swimming in Northern Ireland.

So well deserved and a worthy recipient .
Nelson started coaching in Ards assisting former Head coach George Morrow before taking the role on himself and then stepping down in recent years to assist current Head coach Davy Johnston.
Nelson has coached multiple medalist and Paralympic swimmer Bethany Firth to two Olympic Games , many swimmers to commonwealth Games, junior commonwealths, European championships and junior Europeans .Nelson has been at the forefront of the club seeing Ards swimmers take national titles and records and has been involved in performance swimming within swim Ulster and Ireland over the years as well as being part of the Team GB coaching squad with Bethany in Rio 2016.

Michael Hewitt , Victoria Catterson and Paddy Johnston have been selected for the Performance Transition squad which aims to transition swimmers who have left the junior ranks to senior performance swimmers whilst junior swimmers Amelia Kane and Ellie McKibbin are selected for the performance pathway squad. The team will travel this week to Hamburg to race in what promises to be the most anticipated event the sport has seen since the Rio Olympic Games in 2016.

Great to see our swimmers and our club acknowledged at sports awards. Congratulations to Belfast based athlete Amelia kane on being awarded junior female sports personality award at Belfast City Council #belfastsportsawards 2020 . We are very proud to announce that two of our current performance swimmers have been picked up by the American college athlete system and will head to the US to swim in August 2021👏👏☘️
In June ,17 year old Amelia kane verbally committed to swim and study with the division 1 team at the University of Akron ,Ohio Akron Zips Women's Swimming and Diving
This week 18 year old Paddy Johnston has verbally committed to swim and study with the division 1 team at Cleveland State University, Ohio Cleveland State Vikings Swimming & Diving
Congratulations to the Ards coaching team for putting them in the position to be selected for college swimming .
Both Paddy and Amelia have been with Ards since Dolphin level ,have represented Swim Ulster and Swim Ireland 🇮🇪 internationally and are members of the Irish swimming squad and both have had tremendous support in their swimming careers from swim Ireland and have been supported by the Mary Peters Trust. We wish them well in 2021 !

🚗 Good news. Swim Ireland Members may now use car-pooling/lift sharing when travelling to and from club activities.

The following must be taken into consideration, whether north or south of the border:

✅ Share vehicles only when completely necessary
✅ The shorter the journey, the more appropriate it is to consider car-pooling/lift sharing
✅ Longer journeys may need to be broken up, with short intervals of stoppage
✅ Maximise full size of vehicle interior to keep travellers separated
✅ Face masks strongly recommended (for those aged 13 or older)
